Los pachypodiums no son cactus, aunque lo parecen. Son parientes de las conocidas adelfas. Adoptan la forma de columnas llenas de espinas coronadas por un ramillete de hojas que caen en invierno si las temperaturas bajan de los 5º C.
En zonas tropicales pueden alcanzar 6 metros de altura.
No florecen hasta que las plantas son maduras, lo que puede tardar más de 10 años.
Se reproducen bien por esquejes.
No soportan nada más que heladas muy débiles.

Pachypodiums are not cacti, although they looks like them. They are relative to oleanders.
They have the shape of spiny columns topped with a crown of leaves which fall when temperature drops below 40º F.
They can reach 6 metres high in tropical areas.
Only mature plants flower and that can take 10 years or more.
Propagation: easy by stems.
It withstands only very light frosts.
