Origen: Sudeste de Australia y Tasmania 

Es un helecho arborescente de lento crecimiento que, en su hábitat natural, puede alcanzar de 6 a 15 metros de altura con un estipe de hasta un metro de ancho.

Para su óptimo crecimiento necesita mucha humedad, tanto en el sustrato como ambiental. No soporta el calor excesivo. Es quizás el helecho arborescente más resistente al frío. Las frondas mueren cuando las temperaturas descienden por debajo de -3ºC pero el estipe de los ejemplares bien arraigados puede soportar temperaturas inferiores a -10º C.

Common name: Soft Tree Fern, Tasmanian Tree Fern 

It´s a slow growing tree fern that, in its native habitat, grows from 6 to 15 metres in height with a trunk (stipe) up to one metre wide.

For optimal growing conditions it needs plenty of humidity, in the soil as well as in the air. It doesn´t withstand too hot temperatures. It´s perhaps the hardiest tree fern. Fronds die when temperatures drop below -3ºC (26,5ºF) but the stipe of well stablished specimens can withstand temperatures below -10ºC (14ºF).
